ABP Shikhar Sammelan: Adhir Ranjan Says Centre In Doldrums Over CAA Rules As Elections Due In Bengal, Assam

New Delhi: Ahead of the much crucial West Bengal Assembly elections, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury attended ABP News' flagship Shikhar Sammelan and shared his views  on host of issues including Bengal polls, farmers' protest, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and others.

While speaking to Rubika Liyaquat earlier in the day, he claimed that Congress party has a strong hold in West Bengal and the upcoming Assembly polls is going to be a triangular battle between his party, ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

When asked about the "Jai Shri Ram" controversy that has baffled West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the recent past, Chowdhury said that Lord Ram has been purposely made an election issue by the BJP. Further talks about Congress' belief, he said: "We want to go together with Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and Rahim."

When asked about how much seat will Congress be able to secure in West Bengal, the president of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee said that we will try our best to make government in the state and that the party is working hard to gain confidence of the voters.

While speaking about the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Chowdhury said that he is campaigning in Assam and will also visit West Bengal in the days to come. "So much hue and cry about Rahul Gandhi not visiting Bengal shows that his prominence is intact in the state. Congress along with the Left-front will emerge strong this time," the Congress leader said. 

Lastly talking about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Chowdhury said that the Centre is in doldrums to form rules of the legislation as Assembly Elections are due in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. "In case Amit Shah goes to Assam and says CAA will be implemented, it will cause a massive dent to them. Same in the case with West Bengal and other states. This is the reason why BJP is delaying the implementation of CAA," he said. 

In the recently conducted Budget Session of the Parliament, the Centre informed the House that it might take another five months or so to frame the rules of CAA which is already delayed by over a year. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed the Lok Sabha that the rules were still being framed and sought and extension which had been approved by the Committees on Subordinate Legislation for both Houses of Parliament.
