NEW DELHI: As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government completes 100 days in office during its second successive term, majority of people seem to be satisfied with its style of working while considering the revocation of Article 370 as its top achievement. In a survey conducted by ABP News, over 41 per cent of the respondents rated the Modi government's performance as "excellent" and over 27 per cent people termed it "good". The survey was conducted across all states in the last week of August with a sample size of 11,308. When asked which move of the government they consider as its "top achievement", over 54 per cent of the respondents chose the scrapping of the special state of Jammu and Kashmir while over 21 per cent opted for "stronger law against terror". About 73.1 per cent people said the Kashmir move is going to benefit the NDA government. The Centre abrogated provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution to revoke Jammu and Kashmir's special status and bifurcated it into two Union Territories on August 5. Also, the Parliament has passed on August 2 an amendment to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to give powers to the Centre to designate an individual as a terrorist and seize his properties. In the survey, Modi continues to dominate the popularity charts with over 67 per cent considering him as the strongest prime minister India ever had. About 10.1 per cent chose Indira Gandhi and 9.7 per cent preferred Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Jawaharlal Nehru was the choice of 7.2 per cent respondents while 6.2 per cent chose to dodge the question. Also, 66.8 per cent respondents were "very much satisfied" with Modi as prime minister while 19.7 said they were "satisfied to some extent". The performance of Home Minister Amit Shah was also appreciated by most of the people. When asked to rate the performance for the BJP president at Centre, about 39.7 per cent respondents opted for "excellent" while 24.3 per cent rated it as "good". Shah was also chosen as by far the most popular minister in the Modi government by 50.8 per cent respondents. With elections to the assemblies approaching in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand, over 76.3 per cent people were of the opinion that the current performance of the Modi government will benefit the BJP in these three states. When asked how much are they satisfied with the NDA government at the Centre, 58.6 per cent said "very much satisfied" while 26.1 per cent responded with "satisfied to some extent". Respondents also hailed the Modi government on triple talaq act, which makes declaration of talaq-e-biddat or pronouncing talaq three times in spoken, written or through SMS or WhatsApp or any other electronic chat in one sitting illegal. About 64 per cent of those participated in the survey said it will benefit the BJP government. People were of divided opinion when asked who is responsible for the current slowdown in industries like steel and automobiles and did not directly blame the policies of the Central government for it. About 36 per cent said they don't know who should be held responsible for the slowdown while 25.5 per cent blamed the NDA regime for the crisis.
