60% In Rural Areas Unaware Of Covid-19 Vaccination Registration Process: Survey

In most rural areas, people are not getting vaccinated against COVID-19 because they are neither aware of the Cowin app nor do they know how to register for the vaccine.

Days after the Supreme Court questioned the Centre regarding the digital divide in India which will hamper the covid-19 vaccination drive, a survey tells that 63% of people in rural areas and 43% in small towns have no idea about the vaccination registration process.

The same survey reveals that 60% of rural residents and 40% of people in small towns don't even know how to register themselves for the Covid-19 vaccination drive through the government portal - CoWIN.

According to Boston Consulting Group's COVID-19 Consumer Sentiment Survey, 78% of Indians in large cities were willing to get vaccinated and 74% of people in smaller cities responded positively when asked if they would be willing to get vaccinated.

While only 39% of the people in rural areas were ready to get vaccinated in March, 63% have now agreed to take the vaccine. The second wave of the pandemic has targeted small towns and villages, affecting people's livelihood, due to which they are now ready to get vaccinated.

Technical Difficulties Whilst Using CoWIN

As per reports, 65% of Indians in big cities faced technical problems with the Cowin app and are inconvenienced due to the unavailability of vaccination slots. 55% of the people in small towns and 53% in rural areas are not getting a slot for vaccination.

23 To 28 May The Period Of The Survey

The BCG survey was conducted from 23rd to 28th May, covering approximately 4,000 respondents from metros, small towns, and rural areas. During the survey, most people agreed to get vaccinated. However, some people have also given negative feedback about the vaccine.
