With 30 Fresh Cases, Covid-19 Count In Mumbai's Dharavi Jumps To 168; Maharashtra Tally Tops 4,200
30 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Mumbai's hotspot Dharavi. The area has reported 168 cases and 11 deaths so far.
Mumbai: Maharashtra's capital city Mumbai continues to be worst-hit by the Coronavirus pandemic. As feared, Dharavi has become a major hotspot with the area reporting 168 cases and 11 deaths.
After 20 new cases were reported on Sunday, 30 new cases have been reported on Monday.
What makes this development distressing is the fact that Dharavi as India's largest slum is home to many who live in very difficult conditions with limited or no distance. Implementing social distancing is going to be a difficult task with cases being reported already.
The pandemic can potentially spread quickly in such conditions, especially if there is no social distancing with required hygiene-related practices are not being taken care of.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry in the daily press briefing on Monday has warned that 80 percent of all coronavirus patients are either asymptomatic or show mild symptoms.
"On the basis of worldwide analysis, out of 100 coronavirus patients, 80 percent are asymptomatic or show mild symptoms. Around 15 percent patients turn into severe cases and five percent cases turn into critical cases," said Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, at the daily press briefing.
Raman Gangakhedkar, head of infectious disease and epidemiology at the ICMR, also said that 80 out of 100 people do not show symptoms and therefore chances are that they test positive.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had talked about the same when in a press conference on Sunday, he said that a lot of recent Coronavirus cases in the national capital did not show any apparent symptoms. The infected people did not have any idea that they were carrying the disease.
Emphasizing on the importance of following social-distancing and lockdown norms, he said that those who stayed indoors did not infect a single person whereas those who flouted rules, ended up infecting those they met.
