Chemical Gas Leak At Vizag Manufacturing Plant Leaves 2 Workers Dead And 4 Injured

A Chemical gas leak from a manufacturing unit Sainor Life Sciences has left 2 workers dead and 4 injured.

New Delhi: A chemical gas leak has claimed the life of 2 workers and injured two others in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. According to information by ANI, there was a leak of Benzimidazole gas from Sainor Life Sciences Pvt Ltd plant located in Parwada at 11.30 PM on Monday. The local police have reached the spot and according to the inspector of the Parwada police station situation is under control. ALSO READ|PM Narendra Modi To Address Nation On Tuesday At 4 PM Amid Covid-19 Crisis “Situation under control now and the gas has not spread anywhere else,” said Uday Kumar, Inspector, Parwada Police Station. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is also taking stock of the situation and enquired about the present conditions. The Chief minister’s office has said that the plant was shut down immediately. According to the website of the company it deals with the manufacturing of pharmaceutical ingredients.  More details regarding the situation on the ground are still awaited. In May, Vishakapatnam was witness to one of the deadliest gas link since the Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984. Styrene gas had leaked from LG Polymers factory located on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in the early morning hours. The leak left almost eight dead and more than hundreds were hospitalised. The styrene gas leak, also known as PVC gas, affected areas including RRV Puram, Venkatapuram, BC Colony, Padmapuram, and Kamparapalem. The gas leak had left people in shock especially with the looming threat of the coronavirus. It also brought back memories of the Bhopal gas tragedy, which took place more than 35 years ago, killing thousands of people.
