Three Days After Apprehension, Chinese Soldier Sent Back Via Chushul- Moldo Border Point In Ladakh

The Chinese soldier was apprehended by the Indian Army on Friday in the area south of Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh.

Three days after apprehending a Chinese soldier on the Indian side, the Indian Army on Monday handed over the soldier of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) to the neighboring country at the Chushul-Moldo border point in eastern Ladakh at 10.10 am. ALSO READ | India-China Border Dispute: Chinese Soldier Apprehended On Indian Side Of LAC, Both Sides In Touch The Chinese soldier was apprehended by the Indian Army on Friday in the area south of Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh. The Indian army in an official statement had said that during early hours of 8 January 21, a Chinese soldier was apprehended on the Indian Side of the LAC, Ladakh, in the area South of Pangong Tso lake. The PLA soldier had transgressed across the LAC. Soon after, the captured man was taken into custody by the Indian troops deployed in the area. It further said that the soldier is "being dealt with as per laid down procedures". It is worth mentioning that  Pangong lake has been one of the sites of the standoff between India and Chine. Indian forces are present in the south of the lake. The Indian forces wants disengagement by the Chinese forces on the north bank of the lake. This is the second instance since last year when a PLA soldier was captured on the Indian side of the LAC. On October 20, 2020, a PLA soldier, identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long, was captured near the Demchok area of Ladakh. The Army had recovered civil and military documents from him. He was provided a medical assistant and was returned a day later. Indian and Chinese troops are locked in a tense border standoff in eastern Ladakh for over eight months now. Several rounds of negotiations have taken place between the two nations yet the matter remains inconclusive till date.
