Pakistan: Will Apologise For Controversial Remarks Against Female Judge, Imran Khan Tells Court

The court was expected to formally indict Khan, 69, in contempt proceedings against him for passing dubious comments against the female judge.

New Delhi: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday decided not to frame charges against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the contempt of court case in controversial remarks against a woman judge and the court has adjourned the contempt of court proceedings till 29th of September. After Khan communicated his willingness to apologize to Zeba for his controversial comments, the Islamabad High Court deferred contempt proceedings against him.

As a hearing for a contempt of court case against him began, Imran apologised before the Islamabad High Court for his controversial comments about Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry made during a rally in Islamabad on August 20.

The court was expected to formally indict Khan, 69, in contempt proceedings against him for passing dubious comments against the female judge.

During a rally on August 20, Khan had threatened to file cases against top police authorities, election commission and political opponents over the treatment meted out to his aide Shahbaz Gill, who was captured on charges of sedition.

He had likewise protested Judge Zeba, who had endorsed Gill's two-day actual remand in line with the police, and said she should "prepare herself as the action would be taken against her." Hours after the discourse, Khan was reserved under the Anti-Terrorism Act for threatening police, legal executive and other state institutions at his rally.

Justice Aamer Farooq decided to initiate contempt proceedings against Khan while hearing a petition challenging Gill’s police remand.

The court had offered Khan two times a chance to give a written response to satisfy the court yet he neglected to fulfill the court which report to prosecute him.

Khan was expelled from power in April subsequent to losing a no-confidence vote in his administration, which he claimed was important for a US-led conspiracy focusing on him in light of his independent foreign policy decisions on Russia, China and Afghanistan.
