54% Online Videos Watched In India Are In Hindi, Favourite Genre Is Entertainment: YouTube

In a study titled 'Understanding India's online video viewer', Youtube revealed its findings on the viewership preferences in online videos.

New Delhi: YouTube has released its findings in a study titled 'Understanding India's online video viewer' where it revealed details about the most viewed content in India. According to the report, 54% of the videos watched by Indians are in Hindi. English videos come second with 16% viewership here. They are followed by Telugu (6%), Kannada (6%), Tamil (5%), and Bengali (3%). The study found out that Indians have an average watch time of 67 minutes per day and most of the viewership (over 70%) comes from people of 15 to 34 of age. The video viewing is consistently spread throughout the day. People seem to be consuming most of the content while at home (79%) and the rest while commuting (11%). Responses from 6,500 viewers were assessed to reach the findings which also reveal that India's favourite genre on the popular video application is entertainment. The study came up with the ‘Four Ps' of viewing motivation. It includes Pleasure, emPower, Purpose and People. Pleasure (55%) includes videos viewed for entertainment and de-stressing; empower (20%) is about motivational & inspiring content; purpose (14%) is about staying updated; people (11%) involves the need for connection. According to the report, 500 million users are expected to be on the video streaming platform by the end of the year. (With Agency Inputs)
