Delhi To Get Free Wi-Fi Facility From December 16, Announces CM Kejriwal

Kejriwal said that the first phase of the scheme will roll out on December 16, under which initial 100 hotspots will be inaugurated.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal On Wednesday announced free Wi-Fi connection for the residents, starting from December 16. He said that Delhiites will get free 15 GB data per month through a hotspot network across the city. Kejriwal said that 11,000 Wi-Fi hotspots will be set up across the city- 4000 at bus stops, 7000 in markets etc. The first 100 hotspots will be inaugurated on December 16. The government plans to set up all the 11,000 hotspots in a period of six months. “Subsequently, every week 500 Wi-Fi hotspots will be added, and within 6 months these 11,000 hotspots will be set up,” Kejriwal said. The scheme will cost around Rs 100 crores. Kejriwal made the announcement while speaking to the media at Delhi Secretariat. Earlier in august the Aam Admi Party government had said that this roll-out will be the first phase of the scheme, which aims to be the largest free- Wi-Fi project across the globe. “With this free 15 GB internet data usage being provided to people, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fulfilled all the promises made in its manifesto for 2015 Assembly polls,”  Kejriwal said. Legislative Assembly elections in Delhi are due in February 2020 to elect 70 members of the Assembly.
