Two passengers tested Covid positive at the Kolkata Airport, reported news agency ANI citing airport sources. One of the positive passengers came from Dubai on Dec 24 while another came from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Both samples sent for genome sequencing, it said further.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: UP Govt Gives Rs 10 Lakh To Families Of Journalists Who Died Of Covid

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday gave Rupees 10 lakh to the families of 53 journalists who lost their lives due to Covid-19, reported news agency PTI. 


In a programme held at his residence in state capital Lucknow, on the Good Governance Day, Adityanath said that the manner in which journalists spread awareness and exposed the shortcomings of the system with a positive spirit, even in the middle of a severe pandemic, is commendable.


Adityanath disbursed Rs 5.30 crore in all to the families of 53 journalists who died during the pandemic.

The states have stepped up the nation's testing infrastructure and issued guidelines for people to follow as the number of active Covid cases rose to 3,424 on December 25 in India.


In a bid to deal with Covid instances and curb the spread of the pandemic, numerous states have started taking action or developing new regulations for the public to follow.


Earlier on Saturday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had written to state and union territorial health secretaries about holding mock drills on December 27 at all health institutions (including recognised COVID-dedicated health facilities) across the country, news agency ANI reported. 


On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the review meeting with the states to stock of the Covid situation in the country.


At the meeting, PM Modi urged the states and UTs to take the required steps to stop the spread of the Covid variant BF.7.


Meanwhile, in the wake of surge in Covid cases globally, health officials have decided physically visit all government hospitals in Delhi on Monday and ascertain their preparedness to deal with any eventuality.


Delhi Health Secretary Amit Singla chaired a meeting with all district magistrates on Sunday morning and directed them to visit all hospitals and prepare an inventory of beds and equipment available there.


"From Monday onwards, we are going to physically assess the situation at the government hospitals about the availability of beds, oxygen cylinders, ventilators, etc. These details will be available on a Delhi government portal for public viewing from Tuesday," another official said.


The Delhi government's coronavirus dashboard was last updated on December 12. "Real-time data will be available on the portal from Tuesday," the official quoted above said.


Delhi has recorded 20,07,143 Covid cases and 26,521 deaths since the pandemic started in early 2020. The number of daily cases has remained below 20 and the positivity rate below 1 percent since mid-November.
