Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, June 2, 2021: Covid-19 active cases are down by 50 per cent, 1.3 lakh decrease in active cases in a day, says the Union Health Ministry, adding that the cases have been consistently declining for one week in at least 30 States/UT. Since May 28, the country is reporting less than 2 lakh cases. There is a decline of infection in the country with the recoveries increasing to 92% now. In a major decision, the Central Board of Secondary Education has cancelled Class 12 Board Exams 2021 on the backdrop of second wave of Coronavirus. The decision was taken during a high-end meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Wednesday accused the Central government of "hiding" the actual coronavirus death figures, even as he urged people to raise their voice for universal free vaccination.
"Vaccine is the strongest protection against the corona pandemic. You should also raise your voice for providing free vaccination to the people of the country - wake up the central government," he said on Twitter, using the hashtag #SpeakUpForFreeUniversalVaccination.
Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 15,169 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 57,76,184, and 285 fresh deaths and also added 268 previously unreported fatalities, the state health department said.
The statewide toll rose to 96,751.
The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to place on record all relevant documents and file notings reflecting its thinking culminating in the COVID-19 vaccination policy, and the purchase history till date of all jabs including Covaxin, Covishield and Sputnik V.
A special bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud, L N Rao and S Ravindra Bhat said: While filing it's affidavit, UoI shall also ensure that copies of all the relevant documents and file notings reflecting its thinking and culminating in the vaccination policy are also annexed on the vaccination policy.
That (vaccinating all citizens before Dec 2021) is just a hoax. They just say baseless things. The Centre is not sending vaccines to state governments. Centre should procure vaccines for states and give it free of cost to all: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

The Centre on Wednesday took steps to accelerate domestic vaccine production. Mumbai-based Haffkine Biopharma will produce 22.8 crore doses per annum of Covaxin under technology transfer arrangement with Bharat Biotech.
With the aim of vaccinating the entire eligible population at the earliest, domestic vaccine production is being steadily ramped up in the country with the help from the Centre. As part of this initiative, three public enterprises are being supported by the Department of Biotechnology under Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0 Mission 'Covid Suraksha'.
These enterprises are the Haffkine Biopharmaceutical Corporation Ltd, Mumbai, Indian Immunologicals Ltd, Hyderabad and Bharat Immunologicals & Biologicals Ltd, Bulandshahr, UP.
Haffkine Biopharma, a Maharashtra state PSU is getting ready to manufacture Covaxin under technology transfer arrangement with Bharat Biotech Ltd, Hyderabad. The production will take place at the Parel complex of the company.
Tamil Nadu, which had announced the suspension of vaccination drive from Wednesday, is to continue inoculating people after it received 4.95 lakh vaccines from the central government on Tuesday night. This includes 4,20,570 doses of Covishield and 75,000 doses of Covaxin.
Britain reported zero daily COVID-19 deaths for the first time since March 2020 when the pandemic began. According to the official data released by the government, the total number of deaths in the country stands at 1,27,782.

With 29,271 patients discharged, recoveries more than doubled 14,304 new Covid cases in a day across Karnataka, while 464 succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, said the state health bulletin on Tuesday.
"With 14,304 new cases registered on Monday, the state's Covid tally increased to 26,18,735, including 2,98,299 active cases, while 22,90,861 recovered so far, with 29,271 discharged during the day," said the state health bulletin.
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Human Rights Commission has issued more advisories to various ministries and states on the adverse impact faced by labourers and migrant informal sector workers, officials said on Tuesday.
The country has been reeling under a devastating second wave of the pandemic since April, triggering lockdowns in states and Union Territories to combat COVID-19.
"The NHRC, keeping in view the adverse effects of the pandemic on different sections of society, has issued three more advisories to the Centre, states and union territories as part of its 2.0 series of Covid-19 pandemic advisories," the NHRC said in a statement.
These advisories are -- right to mental health; identifying, releasing and rehabilitating bonded labourers; and safeguarding the rights of informal workers during the pandemic.
