King Charles III Coronation Ceremony To Be Held Today

After becoming king of the United Kingdom and 14 other nations following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, King Charles and Queen Camilla will be crowned on Saturday, May 6 at Westminster Abbey with all the pomp, ceremony, and sombre religious importance.

The kings and queens of England have been crowned in Westminster Abbey in London in rites that have changed little throughout the years.

With the exception of Edward V, one of two young princes believed to have been murdered in the Tower of London in the 15th century, and Edward VIII, who abdicated to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson, 38 monarchs have been crowned at Westminster Abbey.

Following a parade from Buckingham Palace, the coronation ceremony will commence at 1000 GMT. This parade will be shorter than the one for his mother 70 years ago, lasting only two hours, half of what occurred during his mother's coronation.
