The BJP stormed back to power in the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, trouncing its main rival Samajwadi Party. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath scripted history by becoming the first CM of the state to return to power after completing a full five-year term in office.
In Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur, BJP secured a comfortable mandate by relegating Congress to the margins with the grand old party witnessing its poorest performance ever in the state Assembly polls.
After the election result, Congress now remains in power only in two states Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, at an all-time low. In UP, the party managed to secure only two seats despite a high-decibel campaign led by Priyanka Gandhi and other bigwigs. Like Congress, now AAP will also be in power in two states.
In the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly, the BJP won 255 seats, 53 more than the halfway mark of 202, while its alles Apna Dal(S) and Nishad Party clinched 12 and 6 seats respectively.
Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, which many expected would pose a stiff challenge to the BJP, fared way better than the 2017 assembly polls when it had secured 47 seats, but failed to unseat the BJP.
The day after the assembly election results, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his two-day visit to Gujarat today. PM Modi will be addressing a mega event in the city and will also kick start the 'Khel Mahakumbh 2022' during his visit.
According to ABP News sources, PM Modi will reach Ahmedabad airport at 10:30 am on March 11. He will then head towards the party's state office 'Kamalam' situated in the Koba region. The Prime Minister will be given a grand welcome by the party in the state after which he will interact with the workers and office members for around 1-2 hours.
From BJP's office, PM Modi will move towards Raj Bhavan after that he will head towards GMDC Ground to address a mass rally of elected representatives of village, taluka, and district panchayats. According to a PTI report, over one lakh people from across the state are scheduled to attend the mega rally.
After the rally, the Prime Minister will return to the Raj Bhavan and hold some political meetings which will conclude the Day 1 agenda of his visit to the state.
In Punjab, the Charanjit Singh Channi-led cabinet will have a cabinet meeting today and after this meeting, CM Channi will go to Raj Bhavan to resign.
Meanwhile, BJP UP is slated to have a big meeting in Delhi today. The meeting in Delhi is regarding the UP election results. CM Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh, and BJP organisation general secretary Sunil Bansal will attend it.
Accept People's Mandate, Thank Voters For 2.5 Time Hike In Seat Tally: SP
Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi party accept the people's mandate. We thank the people of UP for 2.5 times increase in the seat tally and a 1.5 times surge in the vote share. The results have shown that the BJP's seat count can be decreased and this decline would continue: Samajwadi Party
