SC To Hear Maharashtra govt's Plea Today Against Premature Release Of Gangster Arun Gawli

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea of the Maharashtra government against a Bombay High Court order that paved the way for the premature release of gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, who is serving life imprisonment in a murder case.

According to PTI, a vacation bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and Sandeep Mehta will hear the plea of the state government in which they had opposed the premature release of Gawli, who was also convicted under the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

On April 5, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court had allowed the plea of Gawli in which he had sought direction to the state government for his premature release on account of the remission policy dated January 10, 2006, which was prevailing on the date of his conviction on August 31, 2012.

Gawli, who is undergoing life imprisonment for the 2007 murder case of Mumbai Shiv Sena corporator Kamlakar Jamsandekar, has claimed to have complied with all the conditions of the 2006 policy.

Amul Milk Price Hiked By Rs 2/Litre With Effect From Today

Amul milk prices across all variants have been hiked by Rs 2 per litre with effect from Monday given the increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) said, as reported by PTI.

With this, the price of the Amul milk pouch will go up by Rs 2 per litre in all markets across the country, the report said.

The price of Amul milk across all variants has been raised by Rs 2 per litre with effect from June 3, said Jayen Mehta, MD of GCMMF, which markets the milk and dairy products under the 'Amul' brand.

The last time GCMMF had raised the milk price was in February 2023. The hike is necessitated to compensate farmers for their increased cost of production, Mehta said.

With the fresh hike, the revised milk prices for variants such as 500 ml Amul buffalo milk, 500 ml Amul Gold milk, and 500 ml Amul Shakti milk stand at Rs 36, Rs 33, and Rs 30, respectively.
