The judicial custody of former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the ₹100-crore extortion case, is set to end today, December 27.
Anil Deshmukh’s custody was extended earlier this month, hours after suspended police officer Sachin Waze told the state-appointed inquiry commission the former home minister had neither made any monetary demands nor was any money collected from Mumbai's bar owners or people related to them.
Deshmukh was arrested by the ED on November 2 in connection with the ₹100-crore extortion allegation and the related money laundering case, after the agency interrogated the former minister for 13 hours.

The New York State Department of Health warned "of an upward trend in pediatric hospitalizations associated with Covid-19," in a statement Friday.
In New York City, it "identified four-fold increases in Covid-19 hospital admissions for children 18 and under beginning the week of December 5 through the current week," it said.

The number of coronavirus positive cases at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district has gone up to 51, which includes 48 students, a health official said on Sunday.
Their samples are being sent for genome sequencing to know whether they are carrying the Omicron variant of coronavirus, another official said.
A few days back, 19 students from the residential school in Parner tehsil had tested positive for the viral infection. The school has over 400 students across classes 5 to 12.
All the students and staff members were subjected to RT-PCR tests, Parner taluka health officer Dr Prakash Lalge told PTI.
"So far, 51 people, including 48 students and three staff members, from the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya have tested positive for coronavirus. All of them have been isolated and hospitalised. Most of the students are asymptomatic and their health is stable," the official said.
Ahmednagar district collector Rajendra Bhosale said the school campus has been declared a 'containment zone'.
With 19 more people testing positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Kerala, the total number of infections by the new variant in the state reached 57, the Health Department said on Sunday.
Of the 19 cases, 11 were detected in Ernakulam, six in Thiruvananthapuram and one each in Thrissur and Kannur.
Of the 19, four each had come from the UK and UAE, two each from Qatar and Ireland and one each from Spain, Canada, Netherlands and Ghana, a Health Department release said.
The remaining three got infected via contact.
The department advised everyone to be extra vigilant in view of the rise in Omicron cases in the State.
