India recorded 46,951 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours - the biggest single-day jump since November 7 - took the country's tally to 1,16,46,081 total infections. In order to curb the spread of Coronavirus, the Karnataka government announced it will be mandatory for people travelling from Covid-hit Kerala, Maharashtra and Punjab to be screened on arrival in the southern state. Travellers arriving in the state will need to carry a negative RT-PCR test certificate not older than 72 hours for entering Karnataka.
"As part of special surveillance measures to curb Covid cases, people entering Karnataka from Kerala, Maharashtra and Punjab, including the Union Territory of Chandigarh, will be screened on arrival at airports, railway stations, bus terminals and at border check-posts from March 25 to ensure they are Covid-free," state Health Secretary Jawaid Akhtar said in an order.
In the wake of sudden surge in the number of Coronavirus cases, the Chandigarh Administration has resorted to strict measures in bid to control the spread of the novel COVID-19 amid the approaching festivals.
The Chandigarh Administration on Monday announced that all restaurants/eating places will close by 11:00 PM, last order can be taken till 10:00 PM. All public Holi-Milan gatherings will be banned. Clubs, hotels, restaurants etc. will not allow any ceremonial gatherings for Holi. Moreover, the State Museums, Libraries, Auditoriums, Theatres etc. run by Chandigarh Administration will remain closed till further orders. All eating places, restaurants, hotels including food joints in various Malls will run only with 50% capacity.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Higher Education (Chandigarh) said all educational institutions in UT Chandigarh (schools & colleges) shall remain closed with immediate effect till March 31 but the entire teaching and non-teaching staff shall continue to attend on all working days.

The encounter broke out on Monday morning when the terrorists fired upon the security forces during a search operation in the Manihal area of the Shopian district. According to the details, the encounter was reported from South Kashmir's Manihal area.
Maharashtra on Sunday reported 30,535 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 24,79,682.
As per the health department, this is the highest rise in a single day. The health department further said 11,314 patients were discharged during the day, taking the overall count of recoveries in Maharashtra to 22,14,867, PTI reported.
