PM Modi To Visit Japan, Papua New Guinea, Australia From May 19-24
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia for six days to participate in three significant multilateral summits, including the Group of Seven (G7) and the Quad, on Friday.
During the initial phase of his journey, Prime Minister Modi will head to Hiroshima, Japan where he will attend the G7 summit alongside advanced economies leaders. One of the highlights of the event is his anticipated speech on the world's challenges, particularly in terms of food, fertilizer, and energy security.
PM Modi will be heading to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea after his visit to Japan, where he will co-host the FIPIC summit on May 22 along with Prime Minister James Marape.
Supreme Court To Hear Plea Against Gyanvapi Shivling Survey On May 19
In response to a request, the Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for May 19 to examine an appeal opposing the Allahabad High Court's mandate to conduct a "scientific survey" of the 'Shivling' that was supposedly discovered inside the Gyanvapi mosque during a videography survey in May 2022.
On May 12, Justice Arvind Kumar Mishra's solitary bench reversed a previous ruling by a Varanasi court that had denied a request by certain Hindu women on the grounds that it could harm the building, violating the Supreme Court's directive to safeguard and preserve the "Shivling."
Senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi urgently brought up the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Thursday, stressing that the investigative process, which includes carbon dating, would commence by Monday.
Japan Mulling To Join India's UPI Payment System
Japan is mulling to join India's UPI payment system and promote cooperation on the digital identity system, an official statement said on Friday. Bhutan, Nepal, Singapore and UAE have already started accepting Unified Payment Interface (UPI) payment systems.
