Karnataka to Withdraw Ban on Hijab in Educational Institutions Today

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Friday that the restrictions on wearing hijab in educational institutions in the state will be lifted from December 23. Speaking at the inauguration of three police stations in Nanjangud, Mysuru district, the Chief Minister emphasized that choices related to dress and food are personal and should not be subject to undue restrictions. Addressing the crowd, Siddaramaiah took a swipe at the BJP, accusing them of sidelining those wearing caps, burqa, and sporting a beard despite their slogan of 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas' (Cooperation of all, Development of all).

Responding to a query from the audience regarding the hijab restrictions, Siddaramaiah clarified, "No (restrictions). You can wear Hijab. I have instructed (the officials) that there will be no restriction from tomorrow onwards. You can wear and eat whatever you want. It's up to you." He added, "Your choices are yours and my choices are mine. It's that simple." Drawing a parallel with his own attire, he said, "I wear dhoti and kurta, and you wear pant and shirt. It's your choice. What's wrong in this?"

Committee Chaired by Amit Shah to Discuss Drought Relief in Karnataka

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah disclosed that the drought situation in Karnataka has been presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. A high-level meeting, chaired by Shah, is scheduled for Saturday to make decisions regarding drought relief in the state. Siddaramaiah expressed optimism, stating, "The Central government has responded positively to the demands of the state, including drought relief, and we hope they will be fulfilled." During the meeting with the Prime Minister, discussions included appeals for decisions on Mahadayi, Mekedatu, and Bhadra Upper Bank projects, as well as an extension of man-days to 150 under the MGNREGA scheme.

Yogi Adityanath to Unveil Statue of Chaudhary Charan Singh

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to unveil a 51-foot-high statue of former Prime Minister and farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh in Moradabad district's Bellary tehsil todaynew, marking Singh's birth anniversary. The move is seen as an attempt to appeal to the Jat community, particularly ahead of the 2024 general elections, as the region holds significant influence. Constructed by the Akhil UP Jat Mahasabha, this statue will be the tallest in the world dedicated to Chaudhary Charan Singh. Jitendra Chaudhary, president of the Akhil UP Jat Mahasabha, highlighted that the statue's theme is education, and the surrounding area will feature an auditorium, a 100-bed old age home, a library, and a building for Jat children's classes.
