The Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) has busted a mephedrone manufacturing unit on the outskirts of Surat city and seized drugs and raw materials of Rs 51.4 crore, an official said on Thursday, as reported by news agency PTI. 


Three persons -- Sunil Yadav, Vijay Gajera and Haresh Korat -- have been arrested in this connection, an ATS release said. It was found that the three persons had hired an industrial shed at Kareli village in Palsana taluka of Surat district on a monthly rent of Rs 20,000 to manufacture mephedrone, also known as MD drugs, using various materials, it said.

A 35-year-old woman who worked as a cleaner died after falling from the third floor of a building here while joking around and sharing a light moment with a male colleague, police said on Thursday, as reported by news agency PTI. The incident took place on Tuesday morning at an office in the Dombivli MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) in Thane district and a video of it went viral on social media.


The woman and her colleague were having fun when they both accidentally slipped from the parapet of the third floor office, an official from Manpada police station said.

Breaking News LIVE: 16 Killed After Fire Breaks Out At Shopping Mall In China

At least 16 people were killed after a fire broke out at a shopping mall in southwest China's Sichuan Province. The incident took place on Wednesday around 6 pm at the 14-story building, located in a high-tech zone in the city of Zigong, Sichuan Province, according to Chinese state media. Images and videos showed a huge column of black smoke billowing from the building.


Several people were also seen gathered on a balcony. The rescue operation was completed on Thursday. Around 75 people who were trapped inside the building were evacuated, the local fire department said. A total of 16 people have been killed, and the rest were evacuated from the building, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Nandurbar Tahsildar Dipak Girase says, "At 11 pm last night, Manoj Thackeray, his wife and an infant were travelling to Shahada when they tried to cross an overflowing nallah on motorcycle, as they could not assess the water current. The man's wife and infant, as well as the motorcycle, were washed away in the swift current. The woman was rescued, motorcycle was retrieved but the child could not be rescued. The infant's body was found this morning."

Gunfight Breaks Out In J&K's Doda


A fresh gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in a forest village in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir early Thursday, news agency PTI reported, citing officials.


The encounter took place in Jaddan Bata village in Kastigarh area around 2 am when terrorists opened fire on the security search parties, the officials said. The exchange of fire between the two sides was going on when the last reports were received, they stated.


A massive search operation was launched in Desa and adjoining forest areas following the killing of four army personnel, including a captain, by terrorists in a firefight on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.


Joe Biden Tests Positive For Covid-19


US President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing “mild symptoms”, the White House said on Thursday. “Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19. He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.


Biden will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the president’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation, she said.


The president was scheduled to speak at the Unidos event in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon. “His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%. The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth,” the White House said.
