Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal Elected As President Of Supreme Court Bar Association

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal became the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association. He secured 1066 votes in the election, whereas his nearest rival senior advocate Pradeep Rai received 689 votes.


Sibal had contested this election after two decades. Before this, he had been SCBA President in 1995, 1997 and 2001.

Indian Coast Guard Arrest A Five-Man Crew Fishing Vessel ‘Jay Malhar’ Engaged In Illegal Diesel Smuggling

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) arrested a five-man crew fishing vessel ‘Jay Malhar’ engaged in illegal diesel smuggling off the Maharashtra coast on May 16. Five tonnes of unaccounted diesel valued at approx Rs 27 lakhs, concealed in fish hold along with the small quantity of banned narcotic substance, was seized upon search. Further investigation revealed that the crew had already sold 5,000 litres of fuel to fishermen at sea, ANI cites Ministry of Defence reports.

ED Arrests Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam In Money Laundering Case 


The Enforcement Directorate (ED) apprehended a Congress leader and the Minister of Rural Development in Jharkhand, Alamgir Alam, in connection with a money laundering case on Wednesday. This move came shortly after a significant amount of cash was seized from locations associated with one of his associates, official sources said.


The 70-year-old leader was arrested following the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at the agency's zonal office located here. On the second day of questioning, he was questioned for roughly six hours, PTI cites the sources report.


On Tuesday, the ED interrogated him for more than nine hours, and his statement was recorded.


BRS To Hold Protests On May 16 Against Cong Govt's 'Anti-Farmer' Attitude


Accusing the Telangana Congress government of reneging on its promise to provide a bonus on the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy, the opposition BRS has called for protests on May 16.


BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao stated in a statement on Wednesday that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had earlier promised to pay a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal to paddy immediately following the Lok Sabha elections, but that he would only pay for a "slender" variety of paddy.


He said that the protests ought to take place at the headquarters of each assembly constituency. "The Congress has once again betrayed farmers by saying that bonus would be paid only for the slender variety of paddy," he said, PTI reported.


8 Killed In Road Accident In MP's Indore


Eight people died and one suffered injury in a collision between two vehicles in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district on Wednesday, police said.


As per Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rupesh Kumar Dwivedi, the collision of a jeep took place with an unidentified vehicle near Ghatabillod on the Indore-Ahmedabad National Highway. "Eight people have been confirmed dead, while another person is injured," the official said, PTI quoted saying


"The injured person has been hospitalised," he said. Dwivedi said, "The driver of the unidentified vehicle fled after the accident.”
