Body Of West Bengal BJP MLA Found Hanging Near A Shop; JP Nadda Condemns 'Heinous Killing' Under Mamata Raj

A BJP MLA from Hemtabad, West Bengal was found hanging dead near his home. His family has alleged that he was murdered.

Kolkata: A BJP MLA from Hemtabad, West Bengal was dead near his home. According to reports, Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hemtabad, a reserved seat, in Uttar Dinajpur was found hanging in Bindal near his village home. His hanging body was recovered from the verandah of a closed shop one kilometer away from the house. His family alleges that he was murdered and then hanged. They claim that some motorcyclists called him around 1 AM last night. His hanging body was recovered from the verandah of a closed shop at an intersection this morning. The BJP’s West Bengal unit has also tweeted about the incident with a graphic video that shows the hanging body. The party has written, 'Body of Shri Debendra Nath Ray, BJP MLA from Hemtabad, a reserved seat, in Uttar Dinajpur, was found hanging like this in Bindal, near his village home. People are of the clear opinion that he was first killed & then hung. His crime? He joined the BJP in 2019. Om Shanti.’ The National President of  BJP Jagat Prakash Nadda has tweeted about the incident and hit back at the Mamta Banerjee led government over the failure of law and order in the state. According to information by news agency ANI, the BJP leader from the state Rahul Sinha has demanded a CBI inquiry. “We demand CBI inquiry into the killing of BJP MLA from Hemtabad, Debendra Nath Ray. Trinamool Congress is behind this killing and has made it look like a suicide. I request West Bengal CM to order CBI inquiry to find the truth behind the killing, “said Sinha. The police have started investigating the case. Ray was elected from the Hematabad constituency in the 2016 assembly elections with a CPI (M) ticket. However, in May 2019, he joined the BJP along with his supporters. This led to the area becoming a BJP stronghold.
