BJP MP Pragya Thakur Shows Woman 'The Kerala Story' To 'Warn' Her, She Flees With Muslim Boyfriend

BJP MP Pragya Thakur convinced the girl not to marry her Muslim boyfriend after which she also showed her the movie, The Kerala Story

A 19-year-old nursing student who eloped with her Muslim boyfriend was shown the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Pragya Thakur in order to convince her to call off her marriage. As per an ABP News report, the girl, along with her boyfriend, fled her house on May 11 and reached a police station in the evening wearing a burqa. As the news reached Pragya Thakur, she called on the girl and tried to convince her to not marry her boyfriend, Yusuf. Thakur even took her to see the movie, criticised for its anti-Islamic rhetoric.

Despite MP’s attempt at persuasion, the girl went on her with decision and again left her house on the intervening night of May 18 and 19 this time along with jewellery and Rupees 70,000 cash, the report said.

A missing report was lodged at Bhopal’s Kamala Nagar police station.

'The Kerala Story', starring Adah Sharma, is portrayed as "unearthing" the events behind "approximately 32,000 women", later changed to “3 women” by the makers,  allegedly going missing in the southern state. The film claims they were converted, got radicalised, and were deployed in terror missions in India and the world.

The plot line triggered controversy with the members of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party promoting the film while states like West Bengal banned it. The movie was declared tax-free in BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

The matter reached the Supreme Court after the filmmakers filed a petition against the Mamata Banerjee led Bengal government.

The apex court put a stay on the Bengal government’s order banning the film’s screening in the state.  The Supreme Court has also served a notice to Tamil Nadu regarding the informal prohibition of the film within the state.
