BJP MP Alphons Slams Kerala Congress For Its 'Kashmir Files Vs Truth' Tweets

Kerala Congress deferred with the film and took to its Twitter handle calling the thread "Kashmir Files Vs Truth"

New Delhi: The Kashmir Files film has taken the country by storm and those who watched it are showering praise on the cast and director Vivek Agnihotri. The Kerala Congress, however, took to Twitter Sunday to highlight certain "facts" about the 1990 Kashmiri Pandit massacre and exodus, which did not go well with the BJP.

Calling the thread "Kashmir Files Vs Truth", the Kerala Congress handle sought to highlight how it was a BJP-supported government that was at the Centre during the exodus.

Responding to tweets, BJP MP from Kerala KJ Alphons claimed that it was Congress that should be blamed for the situation. "Everyone knows that over 1.5 lakh Kashmiri Pandits were driven out on communal grounds, by the ruling dispensation, which was Congress or its supported governments," Alphons said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

"Congress & its allies created a situation in which the pandits couldn't live anymore. They were murdered, there was a genuine fear for their lives, so they left...things have improved dramatically after the revocation of Article 370," he added.

In a series of tweets Sunday, the Kerala Congress called the then governor of the state an "RSS man". It also listed the work done by the subsequent UPA governments towards rehabilitaion of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits.

"UPA govt built 5,242 tenements for Pandits in Jammu & provided one-time assistance of Rs 5 lakh to each family in addition to student scholarships, assistance to farmers & welfare schemes worth Rs 1,168.4 crore," one of the tweets read.

Kanchan Gupta, Senior Adviser in the Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, also called out the Kerala Congress, countering its "facts". He wrote: "Attacks on Pandits began in Sept 1989; they began leaving Kashmir in Nov-Dec. Those who remained left in Jan 1990, mostly on 20 Jan after night of horrific terror. VP Singh turned out to be a scheming wimp, but that does not change facts."

Meanwhile, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have declared 'The Kashmir Files' to be tax-free, and the Haryana government has asked the cinemas to not charge state GST from customers.
