Andhra Pradesh Govt Announces Ex-Gratia Of Rs 3L To Kins Of 6 Deceased Odisha Labourers

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy today granted Rs 3L solatium to the kins of migrant labourers from Odisha, who recently died in the Guntur district in a fire accident.

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy today (July 31) announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh each to six migrant workers from Odisha, who lost lives in a massive fire in the Guntur district recently.

The six migrant labourers from Odisha were charred to death when the shelter in which they were sleeping caught fire on Thursday. The sad incident happened at Lankevani Dibba village of Repalle mandal in Guntur district.

Mr Reddy directed the concerned officials to offer Rs 3 lakh each to the deceased migrant labourers' kin.

The Chief Minister said the compensation should be handed over as a benevolent gesture to the workers’ clan, considering that they came to the state seeking livelihood.

Similarly, the CM also instructed the related officials to ensure that the owners of the fishery ponds where the labourers worked also pay compensation to the labourers' relatives.

The six workers from Odisha died on Thursday night (July 29) when their shed caught fire at 11:30 pm when the labourers were in their deep sleep near an aquafarm in Lankavanidibba village.

However, police are investigating the cause of the death of six men.

It is also suspected that the workers could have died of electrocution, or the power lines may have fallen on their shed. Burn injuries were found on the bodies of the deceased.

The six men came to Andhra Pradesh in search of a livelihood only a few months ago from Odisha.
