New Delhi: Searching for a perfect life partner? Well perfection maybe a myth but perhaps not if you are okay with a robotic partner who has as cute "Theek Hai" to offer as SIFRA to everything that you say. But then she (or should we say it?) is heartless and void of human feelings and emotions. The entire point the movie 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya' tries to drive home, in its 143 minutes of run time, is not new and has been explored in several Indian and international projects in the past but it is the freshness and originality through which the film manages to achieve that becomes its Unique Selling Proposition. For a project that could have easily been prescriptive in nature, debutant directors Amit Joshi and Aradhna Shah have hit the right tone and managed to tick more boxes than otherwise in this science-fiction romantic comedy movie that is an out-and-out entertainer that one can go with family or significant other this Valentine's week.
The plot revolves around Aaryan Agnihotri (Shahid Kapoor) who is a robotics engineer in Mumbai and one of the finest programmers working for E-Robotics, a company headed by her Urmila Maasi (Dimple Kapadia). With Aaryan desperate for a break from his family based in Delhi as they want him to get married and Urmila Maasi inviting him to the United States for an official assignment, our leading man finds the perfect escape and also a chance to maybe meet the perfect life partner. There he meets SIFRA (Kriti Sanon) or as we later come to know, Super Intelligent Female Robot Automation, and falls in love with her only to realise that she is a robot designed in a way Aaryan would end up liking by his maasi. What happens next in this 'Impossible Love Story' is what the film revolves around.
What Works For The Film?
The film is the first collaboration of Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon and their chemistry is a definite hit in this film which by no means looks robotic or artificial.
Their performances individually too is one of the highs of the film with Shahid continuing his fine form after 'Farzi' and 'Bloody Daddy', in what is his first theatrical release since 'Jersey'.
Kriti looks stunning and every bit believable as SIFRA (Jo Saans Nahi Leti, Charge Hoti Hai), managing to strike a chord with the audience and convincing us that she is too perfect to be true.
Dimple Kapadia as the classy, sassy and bossy maasi also works out as an awesome choice for the role with the veteran actor's character playing a key part in the story and she delivers big time.

Some of the dialogues and the situations for which they have been written seems to be a perfect match and the duo of Amit Joshi and Aradhna Shah deserve a special mention for it.
Most jokes do seem to land although an occasional few could have been avoided, it may be asking for a bit too much.
Some of the dialogues exchanged between the characters are larger questions that human race is still trying to find an answer to. "Robot hona buri baat hai kya?" might just leave an aftertaste in one of the many instances in the movie where one is forced to ponder the human-robot relationship and the complexities which will continue to arise because of it in the world that we inhabit.
Music is also one of the plus points in the film. The background score complements the tone and mood of the film. Neither of the three songs, "Akhiyaan Gulaab" written, composed and sung by Mitraaz, "Laal Peeli Akhiyaan" sung by Tanishk Bagchi, Romy; music by Tanishk Bagchi and lyrics by Neeraj Rajawat and "Tum Se" sung by Sachin–Jigar, Varun Jain, Raghav Chaitanya; music by Sachin-Jigar and lyrics by Indraneel, that come in between what transpires in the story seem to be a chance for those in the theatres to take a quick loo break. They keep you hooked to your seats.
Of course, the choreography and some of Shahid's dance moves do have a role to play but Kriti was equally good dancing along with Shahid. The title track sung by Raghav, Tanishk Bagchi, Asees Kaur; music by Raghav, Tanishk Bagchi with lyrics penned by Bagchi himself is used for the credits to roll out.
Overall, the film manages to leave a lasting impression and raises some pertinent questions, quite relevant in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) era.
What Doesn't Work For The Film?
"Sifra versus The Classic Indian Family" is one the of the major subplots in the movie. It is here that one sees a lot many half-baked characters and sketches, primarily for the sake of a few fake laughs.
Remove a few of them and there would hardly be any significant change in what the film is about or what it wants to convey.
It is here that the writing could perhaps have been a bit more crisp especially as a lot of potential in the character played by senior actor Dharmendra, who essays the role of Aaryan's (Shahid) grandfather in the movie, probably goes untapped.
Watch Out For
There is a surprise guest appearance right at the very end of the film. There is also an announcement from the filmmakers with the movie ending at an interesting crossroads, making us wonder whether this is really the end.
