Do Patti Review: Kajol, Kriti Sanon, Shaheer Sheikh Dealt A Bad Hand In This Netflix Film With Weak Storyline

Do Patti review: 'Do Patti' is unlikely to hold your attention and falls short even as a casual watch. Unless you're a fan of Kajol, Kriti Sanon, or Shaheer Sheikh, this film may be best skipped.

Do Patti review: In Do Patti, Kajol’s character takes on a dual role, one is the police inspector who catches the criminal, and the other is the lawyer who ensures the culprit gets punished. Whether this choice highlights Kajol's versatility or was a budget-saving decision by the production team is left to viewers' discretion. Kriti Sanon plays a double role in the film, yet the film doesn’t delve into the engaging, mistaken identity confusion that viewers might expect from such a setup. Despite a capable cast, Do Patti unfortunately doesn’t even qualify as a decent time-pass watch.

Do Patti storyline

The story follows twin sisters, Soumya and Shaili (both portrayed by Kriti Sanon), who have a long-standing rivalry. Left orphaned as children, they eventually grow up and fall in love with the same man, Dhruv Sood (Shaheer Sheikh). Dhruv marries one of them, sparking the other’s desire for revenge. A series of events unfold, including an accident and an attempted murder, setting off a mystery that calls for Inspector Vidya (Kajol) to investigate, while Vidya the lawyer (also Kajol) handles the courtroom drama. Who is the real criminal, and how does the plot tackle themes like domestic violence? You’ll have to check it out on Netflix to find out.

How is Do Patti

In a time when content has evolved tremendously, Do Patti struggles to keep up with the competition on streaming platforms. With an abundance of international and local crime thrillers available, this film feels outdated and lacks any genuinely surprising twists. Shot in the mountains, it fails to capture the breathtaking landscapes effectively. The opportunity to make the most of Kriti Sanon’s double role goes largely unexploited, and talented actors are unfortunately wasted on a script that doesn’t hold up. Even in comparison to mobile game ‘Teen Patti’, the film falls flat in entertainment value. Kanika Dhillon’s writing is the film’s weak link; she selects an important theme but fails to craft a compelling narrative around it, which ultimately makes Do Patti a disappointing watch.

Performances

Kajol delivers a solid performance, embodying both the cop and lawyer characters with confidence. Kriti Sanon, too, does well in her double role and looks stunning, while Shaheer Sheikh offers the most engaging portrayal, bringing unexpected depth to his character. Tanvi Azmi and Brijendra Kala also perform admirably, but their efforts feel wasted against the backdrop of a lackluster story.

Direction and writing

Kanika Dhillon’s script is the film's primary downfall, lacking the punch needed to compete with the wide variety of gripping content available today. With OTT content now competing not only with Bollywood but also with films from South India and international cinema, 'Do Patti' feels several steps behind. Shashanka Chaturvedi’s direction is competent, but he struggles to overcome the limitations of the weak storyline. Kriti Sanon, who also served as the film’s producer, might consider focusing more on the script for future projects, as strong content is the heart of today's OTT landscape.

Final verdict

'Do Patti' is unlikely to hold your attention and falls short even as a casual watch. Unless you're a dedicated fan of Kajol, Kriti Sanon, or Shaheer Sheikh, this film may be best skipped.
