World Wildlife Day 2023: 5 Rare And Exotic Wildlife Species Found In India

India is an unparalleled home to amazing and exotic creatures. Although the nation is endowed with a wide variety of unusual animals, many of them are in danger of becoming extinct.

New Delhi: World Wildlife Day is an international event recognised by the United Nations to honour all wild animals and plants and the positive impact they have on both our quality of life and the health of the earth. It is celebrated every year on March 3. The day is observed to remind people to take immediate precautions to protect wildlife from crimes and the extinction of species caused by humans.

Since a few years ago, wildlife exploitation has escalated into a significant problem that, if left unchecked, will have a variety of negative effects on the economy, the environment, and society. The goal of World Wildlife Day is to stop the decline of biodiversity.

Talking about India, it is an unparalleled home to amazing and exotic creatures. Many endangered and wild creatures find refuge in the more than 500 wildlife sanctuaries and 100 national parks that exist. Although the nation is endowed with a wide variety of unusual animals, many of them are in danger of becoming extinct due to severe human interference.

Additionally, climate change significantly contributes to the decline of these animals' existence, in addition to the actions of humans, which decide their fate. Here are some rare and exotic wildlife species that are found in India:

1. Indian Giant Flying Squirrel:

In India, there are several species of flying squirrels, the bulk of which are found in the northeastern states. They can glide from one tree to other thanks to their flying membrane, which stretches from their wrists to their ankles.

The Lion-tailed Macaque, which can be found in the Western Ghats of South India, draws attention to itself with its extraordinary look and behaviours.
