TN Govt Launches ‘Trek Tamil Nadu’ Portal, Opens Bookings for 40 Scenic Trails

These treks are designed to have minimal environmental impact, ensuring low carbon footprints and preserving the natural beauty of our forests.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched the Trek Tamil Nadu project, unveiling a new logo and the official website, www.trektamilnadu.com. This initiative introduces 40 trekking trails across the state, promoting nature conservation, supporting local communities, and enhancing forest and wildlife preservation.

Some of the best trekking spots, as per the website are Longwood Sholam Avalanche-Korlaribetta, Manambolly, Topslip and Vellagavi.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Forest Department and the Tamil Nadu Wilderness Experiences Corporation. The website highlights Tamil Nadu's diverse forest cover, which spans 26,419.23 sq. km and includes tropical evergreen and moist deciduous forests, grasslands, mangroves, and more. Aimed at fostering appreciation for the state's ecological wealth, the project offers curated trekking experiences in lesser-known, pristine destinations.

Trek Tamil Nadu reportedly offers an opportunity to explore the wild landscapes of Tamil Nadu through 124 identified forest trails across the state. To launch the project, 40 priority trails have been selected for responsible trekking. These treks are designed to have minimal environmental impact, ensuring low carbon footprints and preserving the natural beauty of our forests.

Trained local guides from over 50 tribal and forest-adjacent villages will lead these treks, ensuring a blend of safety and authentic experiences, as reported by Times of India. Approximately 300 guides underwent extensive training and were provided with essential trekking gear. Open to individuals above 18, treks can be booked directly, with younger participants requiring consent and kids below 10 years needing supervision, reported The New Indian Express.

The Trek Tamil Nadu initiative seeks to balance tourism with ecological responsibility while offering trekkers an immersive journey through the state’s varied landscapes.
