Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's sartorial choices during budget presentations offer a vibrant showcase of India's rich handwoven textiles and crafts. Each budget session, she dons a different Indian handloom saree, embodying the nation's cultural heritage. As she prepares to present the budget for the seventh time today, her attire continues to reflect the diverse and intricate artistry of Indian weavers.

On this occasion, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived at the Parliament complex wearing a white and magenta silk saree. The saree is adorned with the golden motif drawn on the magenta border of the ensemble.

Prior to this, in her 6th budget session, she chose a blue tussar silk handloom saree for the presentation of the interim budget of the Modi government's second term. She carried the 'bahi-khata',' a tablet wrapped in a red cloth embossed with the gold-coloured national emblem'.

In 2023, Nirmala Sitharaman wore a traditional red saree featuring a temple border design. The saree's borders were dark black and intricately decorated with golden craftsmanship.


Nirmala Sitharaman's Sartorial Choices For Budget Announcements

For the 2022 budget session, she selected a rusty brown Bomkai saree with an off-white border, showcasing her preference for elegant simplicity.

In 2021, she wore a red and off-white Pochampally saree and complemented her look with a gold chain, bangles, and earrings.

During the 2020 budget session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chose a saree made of yellow-gold silk. The saree had a blue border, and she paired it with a blouse that matched the blue border of the saree.

In her debut budget session in 2019, Sitharaman opted for a pink Mangalgiri saree with a gold border. This marked the first time she replaced the traditional briefcase with a 'bahi-khata'.
