Muharram 2021: According to the Islamic calendar, Muharram is the first month of the year. Ashura, the festival of Muharram, is celebrated on the 10th day after the beginning of the month of Muharram.

Muharram 2021: In Islam, the month of Muharram is considered very important for both Shia and Sunni Muslims.  According to the Islamic calendar, it is considered the first month of the new Islamic year. According to the English calendar in the year 2021, the month of Muharram will start from August 9.  Ashura takes place on the 10th day after the beginning of the month of Muharram. The festival of Muharram is celebrated on this day.

According to the beliefs of Islamic religion, the festival of Muharram is celebrated in the sorrow of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad, the founder of Islam. According to beliefs, on the 10th of Muharram in 680 AD, there was a massacre in the field of Karbala and Imam Hussain had died fighting. Since then there is a tradition of celebrating the festival of Muharram.

As soon as the moon of Muharram is seen, the azadars become angry in the sorrow of their Imam. The belief of Islam is that on this day martyrdom is remembered along with Hazrat Imam Hussain and 72 of his friends in the field of Karbala. Tazia is taken out on this day. These Tajiyas are the replica of the tombs of Hazrat Imam Hussain and Hazrat Imam Hassan, the grandsons of Prophet Muhammad.

According to the Islamic calendar, the new Islamic year begins on the first day of Muharram. Muharram is the first month of the year. According to the English calendar, the new Islamic year will start from 9 August 2021. This Islamic year will be 1443.

What is Ashura?

The tenth day of the month of Muharram is called Ashura. It is considered one of the most scandalous days in Islamic history. Muharram is celebrated in India on the day of Ashura.

Importance of Muharram Festival

Shia Muslim Community condolences on the death of Hussein ibn Ali, who died in Karbala War {680 AD} The plain of Karbala is a famous pilgrimage center in Iraq. Hussein ibn Ali fought with Yazid's army till the end.  On the day of Ashura, the brave sacrifice of Hussain is remembered. It is believed that on this day {Ashura} Moses and his followers conquered the Egyptian pharaoh.
