International Youth Day 2022: History, Significance And Theme — All You Need To Know

International Youth Day 2022: Problems faced by youth are highlighted and observed on International Youth Day on August 12.

International Youth Day 2022: The youth of today's world faces different challenges and barriers to reaching prosperity, depending on which part of the world they are living in. While young people in both developed and developing nations are more likely to experience mental and social difficulties, those in poor nations often struggle with severe issues because they lack access to more fundamental necessities like healthcare and education. These problems faced by youth are highlighted and observed on International Youth Day on August 12.

International Youth Day: History

The UN General Assembly started working hard in 1965 to have an impact on young people. They supported the Declaration on Promoting the Values of Peace, mutual respect, and understanding among people.

By identifying rising leaders and providing them with tools to solve the needs of the world, the UN started committing time and resources to empower the youth.

International Youth Day was established when the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth recommended it to the UN General Assembly on December 17, 1999.

Since the day was first observed on August 12, 2000, it has served as a platform for social education, mobilising the youth in politics, and managing resources to address global concerns.

The day frequently includes important occurrences. YOUTHINK organised an international youth conference in 2013 that included many notable speakers and an awards ceremony. The Indian Youth Cafe in Chennai has recently hosted events. The year 2019 had the theme "Transforming Education."

International Youth Day: Significance

The goal of International Youth Day 2022 is to raise awareness of the need for action across all generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensure that no one is left behind.

Additionally, ageism, which affects both young and old people and has a negative influence on society as a whole, will be brought to light as one of the obstacles to intergenerational unity.

International Youth Day also offers a chance to recognize and mainstream the voices, efforts, and actions of young people as well as their substantive, inclusive, and equitable engagement.

International Youth Day 2022 Theme

The theme of this year’s International Youth Day is “Intergenerational Solidarity: creating a world for all ages”.

The purpose is to spread the message that action is needed from all generations to achieve Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs and leave no one behind.

The commemoration will take the shape of a podcast-style debate conducted by young people for young people, as well as independently planned celebrations around the globe that highlight the significance of young people's participation in political, economic, and social lives and processes.
