In commemoration of the International Day of Yoga on June 21, yoga sessions will be held at India's research stations in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, as well as in countries along and near the prime meridian line. The prime meridian, previously known as the Greenwich Meridian, represents the line of 0° longitude, serving as the reference point for measuring distances east and west around the Earth.
"Yoga demonstrations will be performed at Indian Arctic Station - Himadri and in Antarctic Station - Bharati, along with countries falling along and near the Prime Meridian Line," according to an official from the Ayush Ministry.
Under the initiative called 'Ocean Ring of Yoga', yoga activities will take place at Indian naval bases, ports, and marine vessels in 34 countries, including the United States, Russia, Portugal, and Morocco.
Indian naval ships stationed at nine ports worldwide will partake in a Common Yoga Protocol demonstration. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways will also organize demonstrations in countries with which they have signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs).
To further promote yoga, the concepts of "Yoga Bharatmala" and "Yoga Sagarmala" have been introduced. The former entails a synchronized chain of yoga demonstrations by the Army, Navy, Air Force, ITBP, BSF, and BRO, while the latter focuses on yoga along the Indian coastline. Additionally, a yoga demonstration will be held on the flight deck of INS Vikrant.
The global celebration of the International Day of Yoga will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, while the national celebration will be led by Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
The International Day of Yoga was declared by the United Nations in 2014 to promote the global recognition of yoga and its wide-ranging benefits. It was officially designated on June 21 through a resolution proposed by India and endorsed by a record-breaking 175 member states in the United Nations General Assembly.
Since its inception, the International Day of Yoga has been observed annually on June 21, providing a platform to raise global awareness about the numerous advantages offered by the practice.
