To emphasise the importance of happiness in life, the International Day of happiness is observed globally on March 20.
In 2013, the United Nations started observing this day, but the resolution for the same was passed on July 12, 2012.
The UN recognised the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.
Initiated by Bhutan, the resolution in the UN has shed light on the importance of National Happiness.

What’s history and significance of International Day Of Happiness 2022?
The International Day of Happiness was founded by Jayme Illien, CEO of the United Nations New World Order project in 2006.
Jayme Illien celebrated the first International Day of Happiness on March 20, 2013. He launched the “Ten Steps to Global Happiness” campaign theme, which has since become an annual tradition, according to the portal HappinessDay.org.
It is interesting to note that Bhutan prioritised the value of National Happiness over Nationaal Income in the 1970s. Bhutan is known for adopting the goal of Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product. The country also hosted a high-level meeting on Happiness and Well-Being: Defining a New Economic Paradigm" during the session.
