New Delhi: Summers are approaching and it's time to get ready to deal with the scorchy heat outside. Now, to beat the heat, we often tend to grab a bottle of soft drink or maybe some ice-creams, which, apart from being unhealthy, can be harmful to our health too. Also, it's very important to stay hydrated during summer as the body loses a lot of water. 

So, to keep yourself hydrated, try to opt for natural coolers like coconut water, fruit juices, cucumber etc. for they will not only help to reduce body heat but also you can get your daily dose of nutrients from them. Here are some food items that help to cool the body naturally:

1. Coconut Water: 

Electrolytes found in coconut water serve to keep you hydrated and cool. The power drink helps one fight the summer heat while keeping them hydrated and energetic all day long. It is rich in vital electrolytes. Consuming coconut water will also help you stay moisturised and have better digestion.

2. Watermelon:

Watermelons are among the finest summertime fruits. The juicy fruit also has a very high level of nutritional fibre and boasts a high water content. It has a good supply of vitamins and antioxidants that help to keep the body cool.

3. Onions:

Onions help to prevent sunstroke and keep the body cool. They also contain quercetin, which is an anti-inflammatory compound that can help reduce inflammation in the body. Thus, onions have a cooling effect on the body when eaten raw or cooked. This cooling effect can help lower body temperature and keep you comfortable during hot weather.

4. Buttermilk: 

Buttermilk is the summertime beverage of choice in India. It helps with digestion and also keeps you moisturised. To give your day some zing, serve it with some ginger, fresh coriander, and toasted cumin seeds. A glass of chilled, occasionally spicily, buttermilk, made from churned curd, is a common summer beverage in many Indian households. 5. Mint:

It is a cooling herb. Both peppermint and spearmint are among the most readily available fresh plants in the market and are ideal for summertime consumption. Mint also facilitates metabolism while lowering body temperature. Additionally, it reduces tiredness, depression, and headaches in addition to nausea. Using mint stems to make the tea can help in releasing sweat, which lowers body temperature.

6. Sattu:

One of the finest cooling foods in India is roasted gram flour or sattu. One can make a drink by mixing two tablespoons of sattu, one glass of cold water, a few pinches of rock salt, half lemon juice, and cumin powder. Additionally, you can consume it with honey, sugar, or jaggery.

7. Avocados:

It has mono-saturated fatty acids, which facilitate the removal of waste products and surplus heat from circulation. It is also readily digestible, which prevents the body from producing too much heat for digestion.
