3 Interesting Dessert Recipes That You Can Try For Eid

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the month of Ramadan and is also known as Meethi Eid. So, what's a 'Meethi Eid' without any sweet dishes? Here are a few dishes that you can try at home on this occasion.

New Delhi: Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the month of Ramadan. It is also known as Meethi Eid or Eid al-Fitr, and it is celebrated on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawaal. The festival will be observed on April 22 this year. So, what's a 'Meethi Eid' without any sweet dishes? After a lavish dinner, you might just crave something sweet. 

Here are some recipes shared by some chefs, which are not just super easy to make, but also will take your celebrations a notch higher.

1. Almond-stuffed dates baked custard (By Chef Vivek Tamhane, Embassy BLVD)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder 
  • 100 ml milk 
  • 250 ml cream 
  • 150 gms sugar 
  • 4 eggs 
  • 50g fresh breadcrumbs
  • 100g Almond, finely chopped
  • 50 g milk powder 
  • 12 medium size dates, pitted

Method:

  • Mix sugar and eggs, and beat them well. Heat the milk and cream to lukewarm. Take it out from the gas, add cinnamon powder sugar egg mix well strain it. Keep it aside.
  • Heat oven to 170 degrees C
  • Mix breadcrumbs, chopped almonds and milk powder together. Cut the dates in half lengthways (don’t cut all the way). 
  • Take a small quantity of the stuffing and fill it inside the dates. Put the dates on a baking dish, pour over the egg custard, just fill till the dates are 1/4 seen and bake in a water bath (keep some water in the baking tray along with the baking dish).
  • Bake at 170 degrees C for 25 -30 min. Once cooled, garnish with chopped pistachio and serve.

2. Shahi Tukda Recipe (By Chef Ali, The Old Delhi)

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 tsp of cardamom powder
  • 1/2 tsp of rose water
  • 1/2 cup of ghee or oil for frying
  • A handful of chopped almonds and pistachios
  • A pinch of saffron threads

Method:

  • First, prepare the sugar syrup by heating 1/2 cup of sugar in 1/2 cup of water in a pan.
  • Cook until the sugar has completely dissolved and the syrup has thickened slightly. Add a few saffron threads and cardamom powder to the syrup and set aside.
  • Next, cut the bread slices into halves or quarters, as desired. Heat ghee or oil in a pan and fry the bread pieces until they are golden brown on both sides. Drain the excess oil and place the fried bread on a paper towel to remove any remaining oil.
  • In another pan, heat the milk and let it come to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer the milk for about 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  • Add the sugar syrup, rose water, cardamom powder, and a few saffron threads to the milk and mix well.
  • Dip each piece of fried bread into the sweetened milk and let it soak for a few seconds. Remove the bread and place it on a serving plate. Repeat with all the pieces of bread.
  • Pour any remaining sweetened milk over the soaked bread and garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios. You can also sprinkle a few saffron threads on top for added flavour and aroma.
  • Chill the Shahi Tukda in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours before serving. Serve cold and enjoy your delicious homemade dessert!
  • The shahi tukda is ready to be served.

3.  Chocolate Bomb Sundae (By Shivani Gupta, Chef and Founder at Food N Dudes, Bhandup West, Mumbai)

Ingredients:

  • 3 scoops of chocolate ice cream
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Whipped cream
  • Maraschino cherry

Method:

  1. Melt the chocolate chips and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl for 30-second intervals until smooth.
  2. Mix in the chopped walnuts and mini marshmallows.
  3. Grease a small bowl with butter and spoon the chocolate mixture into it. Freeze for 20 minutes.
  4. Remove the chocolate ball from the bowl and place it on a plate.
  5. Top the chocolate ball with 3 scoops of chocolate ice cream.
  6. Drizzle more chocolate sauce over the ice cream.
  7. Add a dollop of whipped cream on top of the chocolate ball.
  8. Place a maraschino cherry on top of the whipped cream.
  9. Serve and enjoy!

You can also add other toppings like crushed Oreos or chopped Reese's peanut butter cups to take this chocolate bomb sundae to the next level.
