Kerala Youth Congress Chief Mamkootathil Warns Of Intensifying Protests Against Vijayan Govt

Rahul Mamkootathil was released from the prison on Wednesday. He was welcomed by several Congress leaders and YC activists.

Rahul Mamkootathil, the state president of the Congress' youth wing, was released on bail from Poojappura prison on Wednesday night, following over a week of detention for his alleged role in leading violent attacks during a recent protest march to the state secretariat. Just a day after its release, Mamkootathil on Thursday said that the protests against the ruling Left in Kerala would escalate further and issued a stern warning that this marked "the beginning of the end of the Pinarayi Vijayan government."

While speaking at a press briefing, Rahul said, "In fact, we have decided to fill up the jails. Even if they arrest us for the harshest of offences, we will not take a step back from our protests."

He also issued a warning to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, emphasizing that the CM should recognize that "all autocrats attempting to stifle opposition voices have been rejected by the people."

"This marks the commencement of a protest aimed at liberating the people from this government. It marks the beginning of the end for the Pinarayi Vijayan administration," stated the YC leader, as per a report on PTI.

Mamkootathil also threw a challenge at CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan, urging him to substantiate the claim that he submitted false medical documents in court. Additionally, he invited Govindan to visit the private medical hospital where he received treatment, examining the medical records and CCTV footage to verify his admission.

"I do not seek any medical privileges or benefits from this government. From the outset, I instructed my lawyer that I do not want bail on medical grounds. While protesting, I am not afraid of arrest or imprisonment," he asserted.

The YC leader added that it was the prosecution that initially raised his medical treatment in court as a justification for not arresting him earlier.
