Nipah Outbreak: Condition Of All 4 Patients Stable, 9-Year-Old Boy Recovering, Says Health Minister Veena

Nipah Outbreak: The Minister said that around 61 samples have been tested since Tuesday evening and night and they are all negative.

In the wake of the Nipah outbreak, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that the situation was under control and the state has had six positive cases. She said that four of them who are currently receiving treatment are stable. Earlier, two patients who tested positive for the virus died due to the infection.

On the Nipah virus, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said, "Till August 30, before the outbreak, 81 samples were tested. So this is a part of the surveillance. Our field workers gave us information about these unusual fever cases. They reported the cases to their superior officers..."

“Around 61 samples have been tested since yesterday evening and night and they are all negative. The condition of the Nipah patients stable, as per the doctors’ report, the 9-year-old boy is improving clinically,” she said.
 
The Minister said that the state had six positive cases and the situation was under control.

On Tuesday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state will conduct a seroprevalence study on the Nipah virus found in Kozhikode district. The CM said that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) did not provide any clear answer to the repeated virus outbreak in Kozhikode. Taking to the media, CM Vijayan said, the state has decided to conduct a sero survey and health department has been asked to prepare a detailed proposal for this.

Vijayan said that the state has been making all-out efforts to contain the spread and provide the necessary treatment for the infected patients.
