Accused Of 'Honey Trapping', Karnataka Woman Assaulted, Paraded With Garland Of Footwear

The video of the Friday night incident in Ghataprabha village also went viral, prompting police to file a report and arrest 13 people.

A 38-year-old woman accused of honey trapping several men was allegedly physically assaulted and paraded with footwear garland by a group of angry villagers in Karnataka's Belagavi district on Monday,  news agency PTI reported citing police on Monday.

According to the report, the woman was later rescued by police and taken to a nearby hospital where she is being treated for minor injuries.

The video of the Friday night incident in Ghataprabha village also went viral, prompting police to file a report and arrest 13 people.

The woman allegedly extorted several men by honey-trapping them, according to the report. A group of people allegedly went to her house to confront her out of frustration. They got into a fight, and during the altercation, they assaulted the woman and forced her to wear a footwear garland. Following that, they paraded her through the streets of her village with the garland.

"After receiving a call on (emergency number) 112, a police team rushed to the scene and rescued the woman. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital and admitted. She suffered minor injuries and is being treated," a senior police officer told PTI.

Initially, the woman refused to file a complaint, claiming it was an internal matter that they would settle amongst themselves, but after seeing the video of the incident, she was persuaded to do so, he said.

According to Belagavi Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled, a case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint given.

"The woman suffered only minor injuries. She is being treated at a government hospital in this city. 13 people were arrested in connection with the incident, and all of them were booked," he was quoted as saying by PTI.
