Karnataka: Over 100 Stray Dogs Poisoned To Death, Case Registered Against Panchayat Officials
The incident took place just a few weeks after 150 monkeys were killed and dumped in an isolated place in a village in Hassan district.
Chennai: More than 100 stray dogs were allegedly poisoned to death and buried in a village near Bhadravati taluk in Shivamogga district. Police officials have booked a case against jurisdictional village panchayat officials in connection with the case.
According to a report in The Times of India, the incident took place just a few weeks after 150 monkeys were killed and dumped in an isolated place in a village in Hassan district. Following the incident, Karnataka High Court had sought action against the miscreants.
The report said that the dogs were killed in Ranganathapura village in Kambadalalu-Hosur village panchayat in Bhadravati taluk on Monday.
Villagers who sensed something suspicious informed the members of Shivamogga animal rescue club who in turn visited the spot on Tuesday evening. The carcasses of the dogs were removed with the help of veterinarians and police officials, the report said.

Meanwhile, the activists had filed a complaint with Bhadravati rural police officials against the village panchayat officials expressing concerns that some of the dogs might have been buried alive.
Quoting the Shivamogga Superintendent of Police (SP) Laxmi Prasad, the report said that the village panchayat authorities had allegedly killed and buried the dogs, and a case has been registered against the authorities.
An expert team including veterinarians is inspecting the spot and will soon submit a report, the official said and added that they do not have information regarding the actual number of dogs that were killed and buried in the village, according to the report.
