The members of Uttara Kannada Autorickshaw Drivers and Owners Association also held a protest over the issue of hike in petrol and diesel prices in Karnataka.

On Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged protests at all the district headquarters across the state in response to the price hike.

In Bengaluru, the agitation was led by BJP state president B Y Vijayendra. He asserted that the protest was aimed at denouncing the Congress government in Karnataka for its policies, which he deemed detrimental to the interests of the people.

Vijayendra contended that the spike in fuel prices would adversely affect various sectors of the economy. He further alleged that the implementation of the state government's five guarantees had placed a heavy financial burden, leading to a stagnation in development projects.

"The state government's focus on fulfilling its five guarantees has resulted in significant financial strain, thereby halting several crucial development initiatives," he remarked, as per a report on PTI.

On Monday, amidst the protests against the fuel price hike in Karnataka, a senior BJP leader suffered a fatal heart attack. Former MLC Bhanuprakash passed away after staging a protest at Gopi circle in Shivamogga city. Following the demonstration, Bhanuprakash collapsed suddenly and was promptly rushed to a private hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that they (Opposition) must direct their protests at the Centre over fuel price hike.
