In Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, a BJP worker was hacked to death, police confirmed on Friday. The family suspected the brutal murder of Girish Chakra, a close aide of BJP MP Dr Umesh Jadhav from Kalaburagi, to be a contract killing. The murder took place in Saganura village near Afzalpur taluk.
According to IANS, police reports indicated that Girish was lured to a farm under the guise of a felicitation party by friends on Thursday night where he was subsequently attacked and killed. He was named the Director of BSNL Advisory Committee by MP Umesh Jadhav just days before his death.
Before the fatal attack, the perpetrators blinded Girish Chakra by throwing chili powder into his eyes.
The Gangapura police officials believe a gang might be behind the heinous act. They have also officially filed a case and are actively searching for those responsible for the attack.
Sadashiva Chakra, the brother of the victim, said, "The murder occurred due to the inability to tolerate Girish's progress in politics. Some of our community leaders are involved. Enemies must have hired contract killers to eliminate him."
"The killers felicitated my brother before brutally murdering him. I will reveal the names of those who contracted the killers to the police," he added, as per a report on IANS.
The incident is the second alleged killing of a BJP worker in just 24 hours in Kalaburagi. Early on Thursday, BJP leader Mahanthappa Siddaramappa Alure was reportedly hacked to death by unknown assailants at Sarasamba village in Aland taluk.
