We want only 'good tourists': Goa Tourism Minister
Panaji (Goa) [India], July 17 (ANI): Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Tuesday welcomed Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's announcement to impose fines on tourists for litter and drinking in public and said that only "good tourist" are welcomed in the state.
"There is no question of it affecting tourists. The announcement by the Chief Minister about fines on garbage, plastic, drinking out of bottles in public or urinating - we welcome that. We wanted that. They should be fined as much as possible. We want good tourists, those who follow Goa's discipline and culture," Ajgaonkar said.
"We will follow this strictly. The fine announced by the Chief Minister is less. It should be hiked as much as possible. We urge people and tourists to not misbehave with any girl or woman because our Goa is famous all over India and the world. People come here to see our culture and our natural beauty. There will be no compromise on anyone who is drunk and misbehaves. We will take strict actions," he added.
Manohar Parrikar announced on Monday that from August 15 onwards, those who drink alcohol in public would be fined Rs 2,500.
The Chief Minister also warned that littering the state with beer bottles would also attract a steeper fine. (ANI)
