Visakhapatnam: Woman burnt to death after spurning marriage offer

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Aug. 19 (ANI): A 21-year-old female student has been burnt to death in Visakhapatnam district for refusing a marriage proposal.

The incident took place in T.Nagaramplaem village, under Bhimli PS limits in Visakhapatnam district.

Roopa, a second year student in Basara College, was attacked in her home by a man while she was watching television.

The accused allegedly poured kerosene on victim Roopa and burned her to death.

The accused indentified as Harikrishna, later killed himself by jumping in front of a train.

The reason behind the gruesome attack was because the victim had turn down a marriage proposal from the man who had been harassing her for past few months.

The victim's brother suffered severe burn injuries in a failed attempt to save his sister. Presently, he is admitted in a government hospital.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a probe into the matter.

The investigation is underway. (ANI)
