TN MLAs salary hike row: JD (U) appears divided

New Delhi [India], July 20 (ANI): Janata Dal (United) (JDU) leader Sharad Yadav has supported the hike in the salaries of Tamil Nadu MLAs from Rs 55,000 to Rs 1.05 lakh per month, saying the cost of living is high for political leaders as well.

"The Government should make a mechanism, the same way it has been made for government employees," he said.

However, JD (U) spokesperson KC Tyagi has said that he condemns this decision as Tamil Nadu farmers are suffering due to drought.

Speaking to ANI, Tyagi said, "In a country where the century's worst drought has taken place, where farmers are demonstrating semi-naked at Jantar Mantar, I do not support this by the state government decision and condemn it."

The Tamil Nadu Government on Wednesday hiked the salary of its MLA from Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 1, 05,000 per month.
