Special status: RS adjourned but TDP MPs continue protest

New Delhi [India], Apr. 05 (ANI): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Rajya Sabha MPs continued their protest over the demand for 'Special Category Status' to Andhra Pradesh, even after the House was adjourned for the day.

The request of Rajya Sabha staff and Marshalls to them to vacate the House fell flat on the parliamentarians, who refused to leave under any circumstances until their demands were met.

Ailing health too could not deter them as one MP Thota Seetharama Lakshmi was attended to by a doctor within the House itself.

On March 16, the Andhra ruling party reached a deadlock with BJP-ruled Centre over its demand of special status to the state, and ultimately quit the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition at the Centre. Since then, the TDP MPs have been protesting in the Parliament over the issue. (ANI)
