Qazigund encounter: Amarnath Yatra attackers eliminated

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Dec 05 (ANI): The terror group that attacked Amarnath pilgrims earlier this year has been wiped out by the Indian army in yesterday's encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Qazigund, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said today.

The group comprising a total of three terrorists was neutralized in the encounter that broke out yesterday. While bodies of two of them were recovered yesterday, a third terrorist, namely Yawar's body was recovered from the site today.

Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid informed via Twitter, that a fourth terrorist was also caught alive.

"Body of third terrorist Yawar a local was also recovered from encounter site & 4th terrorist caught alive in injured condition. Well done boys," Vaid wrote on Twitter, and continued in a successive tweet, "With the elimination of Abu Ismail earlier & now these three Abu Mavia , Furkan & Yawar group that attacked Amarnath Yatries is wiped out."

In July, at least seven pilgrims were killed while several were injured in a terror attack, while they were on their way back from Amarnath Temple.

Yawar was part of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). His two prime associates who were also involved in the Qazigund attack, were arrested in Anantnag by police and security force.

Arms and ammunition were seized from the arrested terrorists.

Investigation is underway.

A Security personnel also lost his life in the encounter, while another suffered injuries. (ANI)
