30 Children Die In Gorakhpur's BRD Medical College

BJP President Amit Shah had said incidents like the Gorakhpur tragedy, in which over 60 children died in a state-run hospital, is not first of its kind and such tragedies had happened during Congress party's rule also.

He had also rejected Congress' demand for resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The incident triggered a spate of reactions from the opposition parties, with the Samajwadi Party and the Congress seeking the resignation of the state health minister. Rautela said 17 children died in the neo-natal ward, 5 in AES (acute encephalitis syndrome) ward and 8 in the general ward over the last two days.

Gorakhpur (UP): At least 30 children died in the state-run Baba Raghav Das Medical College here since the past two days, district magistrate Rajeev Rautela said. Though he gave no reason for the deaths, the Union home ministry said according to the SP of Gorakhpur, 21 children died due to shortage of supply of liquid oxygen.

A report was also sought by centre, which had assured all possible help to UP government to tackle the issue.
