Everything is bigger in Texas and this is a Texas-sized welcome for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Texas is 2nd largest trading partner with India after California, but we are catching up, says Coryn.

Spirits ran high as the Indian-American community, right from children to elderly diaspora members, came together to welcome the Prime Minister, with the venue being jam-packed hours before the event's start.






Several attendees wore a customised red and white 'Howdy Modi!' shirt, while several waved Indian flags amidst the ocean of people at the mega event.








The organisers had estimated a turnout of over 50,000 people at the special event, which marked a special moment in the India-US relationship and highlighted the close ties shared by two of the largest democracies in the world.








The event marks the first out of two times Modi and the US President are slated to meet during the Prime Minister's week-long trip to the USA.

Mega event 'Howdy Modi!' kicks off with Gurbani, variety of Indian dances




Amid euphoric atmosphere, the much-anticipated 'Howdy, Modi!' mega-event commenced with a rendition of Gurbani - hymns of Sikh scriptures - on Sunday at Houston's NRG stadium.




The Kirtan singers of the Guru Nanak Society of Greater Cincinnati left everyone in the jam-packed stadium spellbound with their soulful voices.  Various traditional Indian dances, including Bhangra, Dhandiya followed which were performed by artists from across the US.




There are 27 groups performing in a seamless live and multimedia experience that will showcase the diversity in the Indian-American community. 




The 90-minute music, dance, and multimedia show features close to 400 artists and community members from Texas and across the nation.

Ahead of the event, a Punjabi troupe was also seen enthralling the crowd as they played dhols and danced over its beats, with more members from the audience also joining-in with excitement.




The mega event will witness leaders of the two largest democracies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trump, sharing a stage before the largest gathering ever -- over 50,000 Indian-Americans -- for an elected foreign leader visiting the US.




The roughly three-hour-long event is being organised at the sprawling NRG Football Stadium, one of the largest in the US.
The summit, with the theme of 'Shared Dreams, Bright Futures' will highlight the contributions of Indian-Americans in enriching the American life for the last seven decades as well as the key role they have played in strengthening relations between the two nations.

Modi-Trump Talks Will Favour Only The United States, Says Akhilesh Yadav




Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday raised questions on the prospective outcomes of the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump and said that they will be skewed to benefit the US.




'The 'Howdy, Modi!' event is being overhyped. The real question is what will be the outcome of the talks between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump,' Yadav said.




'It has been heard that the deal is going to include a proposal which will translate to imports of food items, electronics etc. from the US. Our exports to the US will thus suffer and rupee will be further weakened against the dollar,' he added.
Indian-Origin Teen To Sing National Anthem At 'Howdy Modi'





A 16-year-old Indian-origin boy, born with a rare medical condition known as osteogenesis imperfecta' or brittle bone disease, will be singing the Indian national anthem at the 'Howdy Modi' event on Sunday and is excited at meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.




Sparsh Shah, who is wheelchair-bound, does not let his condition come in the way of his creativity. Shah is a rapper, singer, songwriter and inspirational speaker from New Jersey, US.




According to reports, Shah has broken more than 130 bones over the years. Shah wants to become the next Eminem and perform before a billion people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a 'special interaction' with a 17-member delegation of Kashmiri Pandits here and assured them of 'building a new Kashmir' which would be for everyone.




The delegation, which included Kashmiri Pandits from across the US, met Prime Minister Modi on his arrival in Houston as part as part of his week-long visit to the US.




'Kashmir mein naee hava bah rahee hai (New winds are blowing in Kashmir) and we will all build a new Kashmir together that will be for everyone,' he told the delegation.




The Indian government on August 5 revoked the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two union territories.




Modi also thanked the community for their patience for over 30 years. 'I had a special interaction with Kashmiri Pandits in Houston,' Prime Minister Modi later tweeted.

In his first engagement after arriving in Houston, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a fruitful round table interaction with 16 oil sector CEOs on Saturday, with the discussions focused on boosting cooperation in energy security.




Before the meeting, the Prime Minister first posed for photos with the oil sector CEOs. US ambassador in India Kenneth Juster was also present.




On the sidelines, India's Petronet LNG inked a MoU with US liquefied natural gas (LNG) developer Tellurian Inc for up to five million tonnes of LNG through equity investment in Driftwood Holdings, a subsidiary located in Louisiana.

Tellurian and Petronet signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for up to five million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through equity investment in Driftwood.


The MoU was signed on the sidelines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with CEO's of the energy sector in Houston city.


The two companies have signed the MoU wherein Petronet and its affiliates intend to negotiate the purchase of up to five million tonnes per annum (5mpta) of LNG from Driftwood, concurrent with its equity investment, which remains subject to further due diligence and approval of its board of directors.


Tellurian and Petronet will aim to finalise the transaction agreements by March 31 next year.


PM Meets Holds Round Table Meeting With CEOs Of Energy Sector:




Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a round table meeting with the CEOs from the energy sector at Hotel Post Oak in Houston city with an aim to energise India-USA friendship.


This was Prime Minister's first engagement during his ongoing, a week-long US trip.


Further energising India-USA friendship. Among the first engagements of PM Modi in Houston is a meeting with CEOs from the energy sector. India and USA are looking to diversify cooperation in this sector, Prime Minister's Office tweeted informing about the meeting.


External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale were also present in the meeting.


US Ambassador to India, Ken Juster was also seen during the meeting.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi who arrived in Houston, on Saturday, received a warm welcome by the Indian community.

'Howdy Houston!' was the greeting from the Indian Prime Minister as he landed at Houston airport on Saturday to a packed programme during his US visit.

PM is scheduled to address at the mega 'Howdy Modi!' event on September 22 at the NRG Stadium. He will address the mega event before a 50,000 crowd of Indian diaspora. The event will also be attended by US President Donald Trump.
People from the Indian community gathered outside the Post Oak Hotel, where Modi is staying before 'Howdy Modi' event. Ecstatic about the atmosphere and the mega event, people were seen carrying Indian and American flags to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the city.

"Howdy Houston! It's a bright afternoon here in Houston. Looking forward to a wide range of programmes in this dynamic and energetic city today and tomorrow," the Prime Minister tweeted.
"Over the next 24 hours, PM will meet with the industry captains in energy sector & address the Indian American community and their elected representatives at #HowdyModi event, together with @realDonaldTrump," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
