Haryana CM raises suspicion over role of Punjab Police in delay in Honeypreet's arrest

Panchkula (Haryana) [India], October 5 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday blamed the Punjab Police for delay in the arrest of Honeypreet Insan, and raised suspicion over its role in the whole affair.

"There is surely something suspicious about it [Daal me kuch kaala hai]," Khattar told media here.

"Everything (tracking and arrest) is done with the Punjab Police as the medium, and if they had information (about Honeypreet), they should have conveyed it to the Haryana Police, as that would have avoided the delay in arrest," Khattar elaborated.

Honeypreet, the adopted daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was arrested by the Haryana Police on Tuesday, on the highway near Chandigarh, along with another woman.

Punjab Congress leader and former legislator Harminder Singh Jassi, whose daughter is married to Ram Rahim's son, is suspected to have used the protection of the security personnel provided by Punjab government to help Honeypreet evade arrest.

The Punjab Government has, however, refuted allegations of the police's complicity in the matter, and stated that the state would not shield a fugitive.

Earlier in the day, the Haryana Police took Honeypreet to Panchkula Sector-20 Police Station for questioning.

The Haryana Police was on the lookout for Honeypreet in connection with the violence that broke out in Panchkula August 25, when Ram Rahim was declared guilty of rape by a special CBI court. (ANI)
