Chhattisgarh CM to flag new sports policy

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], September 1 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday said that his government will flag new sports policy to encourage talent in the state.

Singh said that his office will also look into improving the infrastructure required for upgrading facilities in the regard.

Speaking to the reporters, Singh said, "The Chhattisgarh government will come up with the new Sports' Policy within a month which is aimed at giving encouragement to sports talents as well as developing sports infrastructure. The state government had consulted various sports' organisations and senior sports-persons before drafting the policy".

Singh further said that the new sports policy will offer better training and other facilities, while adding that the award money will also be increased.

"The policy will have attractive provisions to encourage the local games being played in far-flung regions of tribal-dominated Bastar and Surguja districts and sports talents there," Singh said.

"Budding talents in various games will be identified right from village panchayats and school-colleges level to district and division level and they will be further provided with the training coupled with hostel accommodation facility," he added.

Singh at the event also felicitated 316 sports-persons.

241 were also given cash awards.

Meanwhile, international basketball player Shiba Maggon who had came from New Delhi for the ceremony, was also felicitated by the Chief Minister. (ANI)
